By BRIAN STEWARTPublished Aug 14, 2018 12:20:33Apple TV box and Chromecast, the latest streaming devices to join the popular Apple TV streaming service, are getting a refresh in the September issue of Macworld magazine.
In the September 2018 issue, Apple TV and Chromecasts are getting new apps that bring the same Apple TV experience to the Apple TV, Mac, iOS and OS X platforms.
The new apps, called iBeacon and Apple AirPlay, are based on the same source code that was used to build the original Apple TV apps.
Apple’s AirPlay is an audio streaming service built into the iPad Air, iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 7, and iPhone X.iBeacon is built using the same technology that powers Apple’s Siri voice recognition technology.
Apple TV users can now download apps from the App Store for iBeacons, including those from Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google and others.
The other new app, called Apple AirWatch, is based on an open source iOS app.
The AirWatch app, which was created by a team of engineers at Apple, includes a new AirPlay capability, but it’s not compatible with iOS devices that have a built-in microphone.
